Origins of 64 Bookkeeping
From where 64 Bookkeeping began to the face behind the books. If you want some background on the business, this is the place to look.

About 64 Bookkeeping
64 Bookkeeping was set up to utilise my unique knowledge, experience, and skills in serving the local charity community. It soon diversified into working alongside small sole traders, too. How small? If you’re VAT registered, then you’re too big for me. You may even be big enough to employ a part-time bookkeeper instead of outsourcing the work.
I only provide Bookkeeping services. I don't submit anything to HMRC, so you will still need to submit your own self-assessment, but I can make it a lot easier for you to know what numbers to include. Having said that, do you know what is included in bookkeeping services? Here’s a short list of examples:
- Recording sales and invoices
- Recording purchases
- Chasing debtors and alerting you to outstanding creditors
- Maintaining stock lists
- Confirming the bank balance agrees with the books
- Reporting so you know if you are making a profit and if it’s going to continue
In fact, the reporting is the most important part for you, as the business owner or trustee. If you provide me with accurate and complete records of all your business transactions, I can give you reports that will inform your business planning and help you grow.

A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet
So, why choose 64 Bookkeeping as my business name? Because I am a fan of numbers.
Like most fledgling business owners, I turned first to my family for ideas. They started to call out numbers. I knew all the obvious ones (1, 2, 7, 24, etc.) would already be in use, so I looked into the other numbers they suggested, and 64 came up trumps.
64 Bookkeeping was available on every platform; it has some mathematically significant properties, and, as a working mum, I only had 6 hours per day over 4 days per week when I could focus on your records. I later discovered that, according to the Jewish traditions, 64 means "Grace and Favour of God to the World". I want to bring this to every set of books I'm privileged to look after.

The face behind the books
Christina Gorham AATQB
AAT licensed Bookkeeper
I’ve been doing bookkeeping since before I knew it was called bookkeeping. At university, I invented my own cash book to keep track of my spending; that worked so well, I graduated with enough of my loan left to buy a good car. As part of my first job, I was asked to take charge of the weekly stocktake and to help with other back-office tasks. I was good at the work, but no one gave it the name “Bookkeeping.”
I finally discovered my talent during a short Sage 50 computerised bookkeeping training course. It was so easy that I spent the lesson helping the other students before waking my brain up by calculating the cost of my fuel consumption that week while driving home. That led me to an AAT bookkeeping training program at my local college and some jobs I’d previously dismissed as, “But I can’t do that,” because now I knew I could.
I would say “The rest is history,” but it’s not. I’ve grown and learnt, I’ve gained more experience through various jobs and voluntary roles, including starting my own businesses (even Einstein knew failure before success) has taught me loads and provided insight into the challenges faced by you every day.
Will you let me share my experience with you too?

Alert! This is where I try to sell you something completely unrelated to bookkeeping.
My interests vary widely, meaning, in addition to setting up as a bookkeeper, I’ve also written a faith book called “The Lent Challenge” aimed at helping Christians understand their faith better.
I do not doubt that, in time, other “strings will be added to my bow,” so watch this space.
